An Austin Shakespeare Festival Associate Artist, Dirk has appeared with ASF in Hamlet, The Rivals, Richard III, Romeo and Juliet, Othello and The Dog in the Manger. He most recently was seen as The Governor in Austin Playhouse Company's production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. As a youth he attended 3 high schools in 3 different states. He attended 7 institutions of higher learning having been kicked out of only one but graduating from 3 (Centre College, The George Washington University and the Naval War College) with degrees in Zoology/Chemistry and International Affairs. His first career was in the U.S. Navy, having served 20 years, retiring as a Commander. The highlight of that career was command of a wooden hulled ship that he took to war. Since coming to Austin he has performed at Zach Scott, Cap City playhouse, Live Oak Theatre, State Theater, St Edward's University and was a founding member of the Austin Playhouse Company and its first board president. He has been nominated several times for Austin Critic's Table and B. Iden Payne Awards and even won one of each. One of the most respected actors in the southwestern United States, last year Dirk was honored by Actors' Equity Association with the national Lucy Jordan Award for conspicuous service to the craft of Acting.
